Doorways Next-Step Out-State Program Print E-mail
In 2002, DOORWAYS was awarded two “Special Projects of National Significance” (SPNS) grants through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to increase housing options for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWA) in rural parts of both Missouri and Illinois. The Next Step/Outstate Permanent Supportive Housing Program works with grassroots, community-based and faith-based organizations which have a history of providing housing and related assistance to poor and disadvantaged persons, in an effort to develop comprehensive long-term supportive housing strategies in rural and underserved areas for those with HIV/AIDS. Next Step Program

Current project partners in Missouri include the AIDS Project of the Ozarks (APO) and the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN). In Illinois, DOORWAYS works with Bethany Place in Belleville and Fifth Street Renaissance in Springfield. By providing technical assistance and administrative support to these partners, DOORWAYS has helped PLWA achieve or maintain stable housing through improved access to subsidy and existing units, while helping its partners increase the production of affordable housing units in the communities they serve.
