As a volunteer with DOORWAYS you will give of your time, energy and skills to benefit people living with HIV/AIDS. Your efforts can help us more effectively meet the needs of residents and improve their lives in a number of ways.
Whether you choose to work directly with residents as a companion or activity assistant, or "behind the scenes" as an office assistant or grounds assistant, YOU can make a difference at DOORWAYS.
Examples of volunteer positions:
Office Assistant:
Help staff catch up on office work including mailings, filing, data entry, monthly inventory, etc.
Activity Assistant:
Assist DOORWAYS' Activities Coordinator by leading and participating in a variety of activities for residents such as games, movies, crafts, singing, and parties.
Companion:
Spend quality time with DOORWAYS' Supportive Housing Facility residents by visiting, going on field trips, tutoring, assisting with letter writing, or hosting meals in the dining room. Brighten someone's day!

Special Events Assistant:
Help plan, coordinate, and participate in special events and fundraising activities to benefit DOORWAYS.
Community Outreach Assistant:
Represent DOORWAYS at community events and public speaking engagements. Staff booths and hand out informational brochures. Encourage others to support DOORWAYS by becoming a volunteer.
Guest Relations Assistant:
Assist staff by welcoming and directing guests, monitoring the front door, and signing residents and visitors in and out.
Garden & Grounds Assistant:
Assist staff with weeding, raking, mulching, trimming, planting, cleaning, and odd jobs inside the building. The St. Louis AIDS Memorial Garden , located at DOORWAYS' Supportive Housing Facility , could use a green thumb from the community. Help make our corner of the world more beautiful.
Skilled Volunteer Opportunities:
Use your expert skills to improve our residents' mind and body health. We need on-going assistance with pastoral care, support groups, hair care, yoga, low or no-impact exercise, meditation, nail care, massage therapy, reflexology, and Reiki. Professional license or proof of student/intern status is required.
Group Volunteer Opportunities:
Would your group like to be involved in a short-term project or activity to benefit DOORWAYS? All ages are welcome to participate. DOORWAYS’ Volunteer Coordinator can help you with project ideas.
To become a volunteer:
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- Take part in an interview with the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Attend a two-hour volunteer orientation and training session.
- Sign the Volunteer Release, Volunteer Acknowledgment, and Confidentiality Policy Forms.
- If required for your volunteer position, complete a Criminal Record Check form and submit $5 for processing to DOORWAYS.
- Obtain an initial PPD tuberculin skin test through DOORWAYS if required for your position. There is no charge.
- Attend additional training if required for your volunteer position.
