What Is A Matching Gift?

Some companies extend their philanthropic activities by matching contributions their employees donate to nonprofit organizations. It can be a dollar for dollar match or another formula. 

Why Is It Important?

Matched giving provides a three-way benefit. Companies add another form of corporate social responsibility activities, improving their reputation among consumers. Matching gifts also maximize employee engagement and satisfaction with their employer, since staff donations to causes they care about are multiplied in value.  And, of course, the nonprofit receives additional funds allowing delivery of services to agency clients.

Do You Work For A Matching Gift Company?

Check with your Human Resources or Corporate Social Responsibility office to confirm whether they are a matching gift company. Some web pages provide lists; while they may be out-of-date, it is a good place to start. Two examples:
