What

Untreated mental health and substance use challenges are serious obstacles to overall stabilization, delaying progress in virtually every area of the social determinants of health: housing, health, economic status, education, and community. This is particularly critical in the areas that build the foundation for stability: housing retention and managing medical protocols to achieve undetectable HIV status, which can improve health outcomes and quality of life.

Success

As a Housing First agency–which means clients are housed first with the challenges treated second–some DOORWAYS clients experience  mental health and substance use battles. For this reason, a behavioral health screening is conducted as part of the agency’s intensive intake assessment that explores stability in a number of areas. Clients scoring high on the behavioral health spectrum are referred to the DOORWAYS Behavioral Health Program for onsite assessment and treatment as needed.  This includes individual counseling in the SHINE program and group counseling through the CONSTELLATION program.

This empowerment service was established through grants from the Missouri Foundation for Health, the St. Louis Mental Health Board, and Anthem.

If you are a DOORWAYS client and would like more information, please contact the Director of the Behavioral Health Program at 314-328-2693 during office hours (Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
